چکیده

In this study, we collected 226 shrew specimens originating from 16 localities on the Guinean and Liberian sides of Mount Nimba. We surveyed all major vegetation zones 400 to 1600 m above sea level (asl), including forest savannah habitats. recorded 11 species, whose identifications were confirmed by genetic analyses classical morphometrics. Furthermore, provide cytogenetic data for five these species. The community at Nimba is composed a mix both savannah- forest-dependent which related peculiar position situated transition between lowland rainforest south woodlands north. species shrews in syntopy rainforest, seven edaphic mountain forest, high-altitude asl. Coccinia intermedia – a new Cucurbitaceae species from West Africa

Nuclear and plastid sequences from two individuals of a suspected new species of Coccinia from West Africa were added to an available molecular phylogeny for the remaining 27 species of the genus. Phylogenetic analyses of these data indicate the new species' monophyletic status and closest relatives. Based on four fertile collections, we here describe and illustrate Coccinia intermedia Holstein...

Traditional ecological knowledge-based assessment of threatened woody species and their potential substitutes in the Atakora mountain chain, a threatened hotspot of biodiversity in Northwestern Benin, West Africa

BACKGROUND Atakora mountains in Benin are a unique but fragile ecosystem, harboring many endemic plant species. The ecosystem is undergoing degradation, and the woody vegetation is dramatically declining due to high anthropogenic actions and recurrent drought. This study aimed to (i) assess the diversity of threatened woody species and (ii) identify their potential substitutes in the three regi...
